Food was awesome. Loved their braised beef noodles and the string beans. Their service was beyond excellent. Shoutout to Jayson for being so prompt and friendly. Triple thumbs upfrom the hostess to management they were an awesome team that made sure we were never with out and that we were waited on promptly.
Noodles is one of my staples and this place hits the mark in as far as beef brisket goes. Rich, savory, tender but firm and the tendons just melts in your mouth! My perfect brisket! The service is excellent. Wait staff are attentive and prompt.
I will make the effort to visit Modern Shanghai again if only for the Steamed Buns with Preserved Egg Yolk Paste (P158), which is the stuff food dreams are made of. IF YOU REMEMBER ANYTHING FROM THIS REVIEW, IT IS THAT YOU MUST EAT THIS STEAMED BUN WITH EGG YOLK PASTE! It starts off as your typical dessert siopao bun, but when you bite into it, you get a burst of creamy, yellow, salted egg yolk sauce. Heaven! Remember to let it cool a bit first, I almost burned my tongue! :D We also had the Xiao Long Bao (P228) and the Shrimp & Pork Siumai (P298), which were also quite good, but the Steamed Bun with Egg Yolk Paste is the one I am recommending to everyone I know!
Being born and raised in the Philippines, more specifically Manila, pretty much meant I had a fair share of exposure and a good dose of Chinese food. When Modern Shanghai opened, I got attracted to it mostly because it was new and because of the very nice interiors. Giving-in to curiousity, my Dad and I gave their Mall of Asia branch a try. We ordered the Schezuan Noodles with Spicy Peanut sauce, which we found wasn't as spicy as the other ones we've tried. This may actually be a good thing since it can suit those who can't stand spicy food, and the ones like us who like it spicy can just add chili. We also sampled their Xiao Long Bao which was good and juicy, with a mild after taste. What I absolutely love is that they have blooming tea! They serve the cup with the dried bloom and leaves, then pour hot water into the cup for you to watch. It's interesting and wonderful to watch! Something one must witness at least once.
